Nuisance bikes seized - Outwood / Snow Hill area |
||
|
Dear Resident,
Acting on information provided by members of the public regarding the use of illegal e-bikes in the Snow hill and Outwood area, officers from Wakefield District Off-Road Bike Team were able to identify the offenders and the whereabouts of three Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPC) being ridden illegally and causing anti-social behaviour in the Snow Hill and Outwood areas.
EAPCs can be ridden legally but must have pedals that can propel it, an electric motor not exceeding 250 watts and a cut off for its electrical assistance at 15.5 miles per hour.
The pedal bikes (pictured below) seized by Police were not road legal and had been converted into what are simply electric motorbikes. For more information about what vehicles can be used legally visit www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules
These electric powered bikes were seized as a direct result of the information provided by the public and the Wakefield District Off-Road Bike Team will confidentially act upon any community intelligence which identifies the offender or the whereabouts of the vehicle.
West Yorkshire Police encourage the public to report any off-road bike incidents occurring within Wakefield district directly to the team at wakefield.offroadbikes@westyorkshire.police.uk Alternatively, you can use our online reporting form www.westyorkshire.police.uk/form/report-nuisance-bikes
